Chamonix has been the mecca of alpine climbing for the last hundred years, Climbing in the Chamonix valley and on the Mont Blanc Massif means high mountains, superb granite and miles of limestone cliffs.

Chamonix boasts 19 separate equipped crags in the valley alone, the nearest being Gailland only 10 mins walk from the apartment and many more in the valleys nearby.

Gailland is Chamonix's favorite town crag, complete with tourist spectators and a coffee bar. A perfect family crag with lots of easy grades but something for everyone up to 7b. Generally well protected, gneiss rock and south facing. A must for all visiting climbers.

Mountain routes may be partially equipped with, at least abseil points in place.

Guide books are essential

The lifts open for the summer around June 15th but the Midi lift operates year round, except for scheduled maintenance usually in November.
